    Offers information about bilingual families. Does not directly talk about bilingual education programs, but provides information about the benefits, and best practices of bilingualism in general. The site can be very useful for parents in working in conjunction with the schools if there is a bilingual program.

    Family Literacy Initiatives

    Provides aid to bilingual families, in translating material from the native language to English and vice versa. The objective of the site is to increase the literacy of culturally diverse students in both the native language and English.

    This site comes from the Center for Research on Education, Diversity and Excellence. It can be used as a resource at a school that is thinking about starting a dual immersion program at their school. It provides the “Criteria for Success”, “Essential Components”, “Strategies for Success”, examples of models to use, and advice from programs that are currently existing, among other things.

The Office of Bilingual Education provides quality educational services to English language learners and their families. DCPS enrolls students from 135 countries, who speak 121 different languages. The five languages other than English spoken most often are Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Amharic, and French. The services provided help these students to attain English language proficiency and to be academically successful. OBE consists of the following departments:
